Four Cadets
joined the Marine Engineering College (Calcutta) in 1979. Four years later,
they graduated (Class of 1983) and commenced work as marine engineers.
After acquiring various professional Certificates of Competency,
they teamed up once again in 1990, to start a partnership Company. The
intention at the time of forming the Company was to render professional
services to fill a much felt need in the maritime industry for hydraulic and
pneumatic repairs. Since the promoters are marine engineers who have
actually served hands-on in the Indian and international maritime industry,
they have a real understanding of customer’s needs. Until then, a great
deal of work was carried by OEM service personnel who were flown into India
– a cost prohibitive procedure for most customers in India. In time to
come, the Company was incorporated in 1994, with a paid up capital of Rupees
One Hundred Thousand.
The core competence in Ship repairs, including structural
work gave rise to a diversification in two directions. The hydraulic and
pneumatic applications led to encompassing repairs and servicing of
Automation systems. The exposure to structural repairs led to applications
in the floriculture industry – primarily green house construction. This
activity has been expanded independently and C-MET constructed green houses
in an exclusive arrangement with Richel Serres de France.
